108695 2002-12-24 06:00:00 I have a laptop and an internal cdwriter (24x) which cost ALOT of money to upgrade from cdrom.

Anyway, it came with Roxio and worked all well and i installed Nero the other day and, upon deciding to burn a cd tonite, opened nero. it cood not detect that my cdrw was a writer. so i opened roxio (which has worked b4) and it also told me that i had a cdrom, no cdrw...

Is there a setting to tell the computer I have a cdrw not cdrom? i tried to reinstall the drives but it said they are the same...

108696 2002-12-24 06:14:00 Nero & Roxio don't like running together have a look at the following link for a boot menu download that may resolve your problem.
www.nero.com

they say the following :Bootmenu Nero/Roxio Software, With the help of this bootmenu it is possible to choose between Nero and Roxio software during the bootup. The satrtup files will disable the parts of the unused program(s). The bootmenu works only with Windows 9x and not with Windows ME or Windows NT/2000.

Hope this helps

108698 2002-12-24 06:42:00 well, because roxio came with my computer, i uninstalled nero. i ran norton windoctor and removed all registry and xcom entries, then rebooted.

explorer shows d: as "CDRW DRIVE" but as soon as i put any CDR in, from my expensive quality ones to cheap pink transonics, the drive becomes "CDROM DRIVE"..

i open roxio, i drag folder on i want to burn, i hit RECRD and the following message springs up at me:

THERE ARE NO AVAILABLE SUPPORTED RECORDERS ON THIS SYSTEM

one week ago i burned a cd in roxio...this laptop is BRAND NEW (three weeks?) and it reads CD's fine...

108699 2002-12-24 06:56:00 plot thickens, i put in Roxio CD taht came with comp and it told me "u have an older version of roxio"

so im reinstalling it. how it became older when its the same installation is beyond me...did nero delete some of its files???
Mark Veldhuizen (2570)
108700 2002-12-24 07:03:00 Hmmm Strange,What version of roxio have you got? once installed pop over to www.roxio.com & see what updates are available for your version.
Also what os you running?

108701 2002-12-24 07:05:00 FIXED!!!

After reinstallation it read my CDRW and knew its max speeds, etc, as i speak it is writing a cd...'

So NERO must have edited Roxios files and duped it into beliving it was a CDROM drive...interesting

thnx for all the help anyway u guys r the best :)

108703 2002-12-26 01:10:00 If you want nero installed do a custom installation without the diect cd component thats the one that conflicts with roxia kiwibeat (304)
