| 108574 | 2002-12-23 23:22:00 | Hey Make sure that your connection isn't told to disconnect after an X amount of time (don't know how to do it in XP as I have ME sorry) Also, make sure your Email client is open and tell it to check for new emails every 10 mins or so - this will keep the connection busy, so your ISP shouldn't disconnect you (they shouldn' t do it anyway, but nevermind) If your using a download manager like GetRight, you can tell it to ping the server to keep the connection alive (then I wouldn't worry about keeping the email client open), and you can tell Getright to reconnect to the internet if the connection drops (just specify your connection and enter your username and pwd in the options part of the program) and should you be disconnected you should be reconnected as soon as Getright realizes this. Also, for a big download a Download Manager is a real good idea incase anything happens (eg: power surge, restart, etc) in which you won't loose your entire download Finally, tell your modem not to make a sound on a connection, this will stop you hearing the modem redialling up Xtra in the middle of the night should you be disconnected CyberChuck |
