If you have no experience in programming, then start with BASIC, its sooo easy its not funny, (even i could draw and little tank to go round the screen when i was 10). But be warned, don't program in it for too long or your be stuck with it forever ;). Try moving onto C next. C++ and Java are rather similar in that they are both object oriented. To be honest unless you are really interested in java i wouldn't bother and C++ is more interesting cos it has Direct X and openGl support (good for games :D) BTW these arn't easy languages to learn and take a very long and hard time, and you shouldn't learn it well once so you don't teach yourself any bad habbits which can be almost impossible to get out of. I reccomend you get the sams series for C, or C++ they are quite in depth and easy to understand. Just remember it WILL not take 21 days to learn C++ ;) If you are a bit strapped for cash there are some good tutorials out on the net, even older versions of the sams teach yourself series. www.informit.com Good luck in your journey of programming, i've started C++ now and boy is it hard! (lol who said that pointers wouldn't the little things you moved about on the screen with your mouse ;) ) I spose in a year or two if you keep to it your'll be able to write a decent 2D, maybe 3D game in C++ or what ever program you can think of !!! - David |

Visual C++ is best for C, C++ programming (its a bit expensive tho) and if you are gonna start of with BASIC (which i highly reccomend) you can get qbasic off your windows CD if you search around a bit.. with qbasic you can pretty much get started with the tutorials in there and go from there - David |

| 109182 | 2002-12-26 10:41:00 | Do you know any languages at the moment? HTML, VB, anything at all? What type of things are you wanting to program and why?, for the hell of it, get a job, cos i can, etc. Are you into open source, or do you not mind more locked products. |

Well at the moment I play around with html css but not to make money . Bit of a saturated market but then I guess that could be said for the entire computing industry. One thing for sure I can't be a comercial Kina diver all my life. |

| 109186 | 2002-12-26 19:28:00 | Try learning C and C++ first then JAVA because the java has taken all the hard part of C++ out. So with java you don't need to free up memory when you have finished using it. Then there is Javascript you could start learning with just a text editor & browser. If you go to C, C++ there is a free compilor pop-along to http://www.bloodshed.net/ along with a Email group you can ask all your worries. |
