108870 2002-12-25 03:31:00 Hi , I have an IBM thinkpad, which I would like to put a dvd player in or get a small external dvd player I could carry with it. Does any one know if this is possible? thanks Ariel ariel (2060)
108871 2002-12-26 08:45:00 i have a ibm too...
check if u can take ultrbay internally .... the ones u can take the floppy/CD out and put in DVD. the TP 6XX/7XX and the A/T/R/X and some i series can too.......

My X20 does internal DVD fine. Just add the software - i use PowerDVD XP.

If u cannot take the drive out and put in a DVD - do this. U can use USB 2 with a PCMCIA 2.0 card and a external drive. USB 1.0 is far too slow. SCSI via PCMCIA too is also a solution. The easiest is prob .. PCMCIA IDE DVD card and the external drive.

If ur system is not too fast ie... less than 400-500MHZ (since laptops are slower than the desktop counterparts even with the same specs). U can add a MPEG-2 card ) PCMCIA - one is called 'MARGI DVD to Go' which gives u tv out, audio out and even surround sound output and speeds DVD up when u have a slower laptop - its a DVD accelerator/DVD card.

108873 2002-12-26 19:58:00 Hi Raymond, Thankyou for your answer. My thinkpad is a 600E , X2A8A4, 364meg, modem 56k,64ram, Tthanks again Ariel ariel (2060)
108874 2002-12-28 09:57:00 that model definitely supports a internal DVD - take the floppy/CD out.
if the picture is not smooth - u need a PCMCIA (PC CARD) for DVD decoding.

the software u need as a player is WinDVD or PowerDVd - best 2. WinXP comes with a free one i think - less quicker and less features.
