108964 2002-12-25 07:24:00 After uninstalling some programs, they still show up in the add/Remove programs category. When I try and uninstall them again, I get a message that it can't find anything. Thanks for some suggestions peters (2850)
108965 2002-12-25 07:55:00 Wot OS r u using? THis happens occaisionaly if u manualy delete a folder from the c drive\programs. Just check C:\Program Files, and if the program that u uninstalled is still there, then just select it and delete it.

cheers,

108966 2002-12-25 10:13:00 Yeah - this is a common problem - either the uninstall program didn't do it's job properly or you deleted the files manually.

I used to use TweakUI to delete the Add/Remove information but it doesn't seem to work any more with Windows 2000 - if you are running Windows 95/98 that should work.

108967 2002-12-25 10:43:00 When you remove a program use Add Remove Program from control panel and that way you also get rid of those entries. If you delete the directory you usually delete the uninstall file(hence the error message) and also leave a lot of unwanted files behind. mikebartnz (21)

108969 2002-12-27 00:43:00 Making certain that the registry is correct is the most important task of all. You can either uninstall the program using it's own uninstall feature, or if that's not avaialble go to the add/remove programs feature. Always remember though, both these ways of uninstalling may not take out all the settings from the registry. You really need to check to make certain that all the "bits and pieces" of the program are gone. E.G. Norton AntiVirus resides in several places in the registry after you have removed it. The golden rule... Be Careful when editing the registry. Go to some sites and read up on what you want to do first! Then be conservative on just what you remove and test out the windows startup to make certain you get no errors.

108970 2002-12-27 00:50:00 You could always use a program such as regcleaner, easycleaner or system mechanic to remove all (or at least most) of the registry entries.

Also if you make a stuff up you can reinstall any changes you made thru the programs backup copies.

cheers
