109295 2002-12-27 12:30:00 I think...

A completely non computer oriented friend gave me a PC they bought from an auction, with the task of cleaning it up & loading a whole lot of stuff they had bought for it for them, everything went smoothly.

its an AMD 1.3ghz sytstem, running WinME, I dont know what the motherboard is (although if someone could guide me as to how I'd post that for you.)

basically the problem is that there is no sound, & in the device manager there are little yellow question marks next to

-PCI communication Device
-PCI Multimedia Audio Device
-USB Host To Host Bridge

At boot up the boot screen right at the begining says "k7t Turbo MSI mainboard designed for AMD"

is there a set of drivers like the VIA chipset drivers? I tried looking on Google, but didnt want to load anything that would screw it up.

Appreciate any advice please

109296 2002-12-27 20:00:00 Run AIDA32 or Belarc they will give you a good breakdown of your components and the via 4 in drivers are what you may need ,it may also be easier to just get a soundcard if its onboard one is faulty kiwibeat (304)
109297 2002-12-27 21:44:00 open the case and look on the motherboard for a model number .

once you have the model number find the model and what chipset it uses . you can either use the manafactures drivers or the chipset makers (eg via) .

while the case is open look at sound card for a model number and download the drivers for it . if its onboard the drivers will be included with the motherboard drivers .

it might pay to boot into safe mode and check in device manager for any "ghost" entries .

I have the appropriate drivers now.

everythings up & running, & I'll be saving the drivers soemwhere very Safe ;-) (hopefully not too safe so I forget where they are)

Anyway, thanks Again
