110110 2002-12-31 04:25:00 currently cleaning up a very mis used HP Pavilion running one profile on windows 98 se - two questions;

how do i by pass the generic hp boot up menus to enter the bios - nomal win 98 key combinations only - result in safe mode starts - eg; del or f keys

2 - when i try to run some software eg utilities - an error appears refering to systems administrator - this is a stand alone pc, how do i access or remove the need for a sys admin?

hope you all had a good new year !

cheers will

110111 2002-12-31 05:58:00 Doesn't sound too good. Not sure about what key you use for HP. I know Compaq's are Ctrl-F10, you could try that.

As for system admin, has the machine been shipped with a password on CMOS? If so, the vendor must know what it was set to.

110112 2002-12-31 06:30:00 I didnt know windows 98 had that sort of security and i've been running it for years.

Can you quote some of the errors?

110113 2003-01-02 11:26:00 try The ESC key when you see the hp screen at start up, this may let you see the nomal "boot-up" screed. keep repeatedly pushing the esc key while the hp screen shows. HP ususally only used esc and/or f2
In network properties, client for microsoft networks, properties, the pc may be set up to connect to a domain creating your admin problem. Remove the domain settings and try it.

luck dude
