I realised it would be sitting around idle, but would it cool down immediately like that?

my cpu is athlon 1800+, pretty fast and it gets up to 58 when its real busy, but normally it stays around 30-45, depending on the usage.

Not to forget whether thermal grease was applied. This can bring the temperature down from 4 to 15 degrees C. Then there is the type of fan used I guess (You probably won't know either if you didn't build your own system though :D)

110104 2002-12-31 21:41:00 In reply to Seqfalt. Does it matter if the figures are correct.If you normaly run at 50 degrees and it jumps to 70 then something is wrong. If it stays more or less constant then , no problem. The actual numbers are only an indication of consistancy.
Of course "normal temp will vary with air temp. and you must make allowances.
