2003-01-02 01:32:00 | Looking for options re being on line and missing phone call.I see there is a system called ,internet call waiting(www.icwonline.co.nz),are there other sytems? and am I alone with this prob? | cicero (1379) | |
2003-01-02 01:48:00 | I am sure a lot have this issue. The ICW solution is not cheap though, because they "neglect" to mention you need call diversion ($3.95/mth) and since they originate the diversion when you go on the web I assume thats a remote diversion (another $2.95 per mth), all on top of their $100 per year. Thats $182 per year. Over half of the cost of a second line. In my case I went for the second line, and have since gone to Jetstream.

2003-01-02 01:58:00 | I spend alot of time on the net.. Being in Chch, i was able to opt for cable, all the other options of keeping a single phone line "active" while i was using it for the net proved to be a bit of a joke when it came down to it. Maybe some one can prove me wrong. .Clueless

2003-01-02 02:02:00 | I would go 2nd line but they want over $600 to put one in,I am semi rural in Ch Ch. Can they justify the high cost or what,I mean to say $185!

2003-01-02 02:04:00 | I think you are still right. When you consider that when you get the notification, you must (immediately!) decide to either terminate the net session, accept a message (if they leave one) or divert to your message service, mobile etc, why would you bother? Just get call minder, and deal with (any) messages when you want. If its critical that calls get through, then you shouldn't tie the line up for hours anyway, get a second line, cable, adsl etc.

2003-01-02 02:16:00 | It's not a question of being critical, simply would like to know if some bugger rings. With all this so called technology,I would have thought some one would be able to sort! I have call minder for the purpose, but that dosen't help if you are on line for say 4hrs.

2003-01-02 02:30:00 | The cost of a second line + internet access acoount is as close to the cost of Jetstart/Cable as makes no odds. Depending on what part of "semi rural CHCH" you are in Jetstart may be the only option, and assuming that you are not cursed with a phone connection that may as well be using the spare (non electrified) wires on the neighbours fence, it should be possible. If you can, i would recomend cable (telstra saturn) and they are also a good option if you wanted to go for the second phone line. They tend not to charge more for a difficult connection. .Clueless

2003-01-02 02:42:00 | I am in Tram rd near Oxford and Telsta Saturn are know where in coee. But thanks chaps,If I wait another 5 years they should come up with a cheap option.

2003-01-02 03:15:00 | When i look at what i am getting for the money i pay on my telco bill, and compare it to my telco (and then seperate internet access) bill of 5 years ago, i'd say that technology has made things better in the last 5 years.... Maybe you will get the benefits of it in another 5 years. Still this is the sacrifice we make by living somewhere more exotic than the inner city. I'm wanting to sell up where i am and base myself somewhere a little less central myself. I hope for all, including myself, that there are better options soon. .Clueless
