110470 2003-01-02 08:00:00 We have Call Minder AND a Telecom Prepay Cellphone. The cellphone is linked to the Call Minder, so that if someone rings the Cellphone and it's off, they leave a message on our home Call Minder. The cost to check it is free from the Pre-Pay (083210). We set this up through Telecom's 123 service.

The bonus is this... Whenever we now get a message on Call Minder (whether they rung our home number or the Cellphone), the cellphone beeps to say a message has been received. So now we leave the cellphone on when online, and can react to messages as they come in, rather than having to ring in and check if there's one.

The Pre-Pay is just for receiving calls and checking messages, we pay the $20.00 per year to top it up but thats all once those calls have been used up.

110472 2003-01-02 12:48:00 There's a new modem standard that is currently being tested I believe. I am not sure. V.92 I think it's called. It's supposedly meant to allow you to be on the net and put it on hold while a phone call is coming through. I am not sure when this would be available in NZ but it's probably worth the wait?

I don't have much information on this standard yet but it could be years when it is available here. You'll need a V.92 modem though but newer modems should be able to get a V.92 upgrade.

110473 2003-01-02 17:51:00 Now you mention it,I read about that about 12 months ago,why they don't get on with it I don't know!Meantime will give the cell phone thing a go,thanks for that. cicero (1379)
110474 2003-01-02 18:37:00 V92 modems are readily available but very few ISP's support this standard and most probably will never do so as the advantages are minimal and most people who are really concerned about phone calls and speed will have ADSL or a seperate phone line .

Interesting article from Telecom Here ( . telepermit . co . nz/nl136 . html" target="_blank">www . telepermit . co . nz)
They make the point that even if the ISP supports V92, due to a combination of other factors there is the possibility that the modem hold function to enable a phone call to be answered may not work .

For myself I find that call waiting will disconnect my modem and the phone will ring, there can be quite a delay before this happens sometimes but everyone who matters know about this .

110475 2003-01-02 19:05:00 seems One will have to wait in my case.My modem never disconnect when a call comes through. cicero (1379)
110476 2003-05-15 02:13:00 The "godfather" is wrong when he assumes there is a remote-divert service so there is no $2.95 monthly charge. You can get the inContact service for $8.95 through Webworld isp, and you can get the diversion if busy for $2.95 per month through Telecom if you package it with your existing other services. If you are a TelstraClear customer, you already have diversion, so you just have to pay for the inContact service. You can belong to any isp and still have the inContact service. Currently though, it is only available in Auckland and Wellington free calling areas. Some previous reply mentioned the call handling options, but didn't mention the answer-online feature, so you don't even have to drop your internet connection, just have a chat via your microphone & speakers or headseat. Cool! It's handy knowing that you haven't missed any calls while on the net. nicola (2891)
110477 2003-05-15 02:52:00 And who might you be working for, Nicola?? Susan B (19)
110478 2003-05-15 03:52:00 Nicola - you are wrong. Telecom offer remote diversion as per the following url
