But at least the route we took resulted in you learning about binding and all that really exciting stuff like diagnosit checks ip address 192.168.0.1 subnet: 255.255.255.0 have you checked it!!! check it again. is your primary logon client for MN? check it. check it again. lol reboot. check it again. |

2003-01-04 09:14:00 | Congratulations Danger... well done! When you get a moment do you think you could add a bit of info about your experience to the FAQ to help ppl like me avoid the pitfalls when we come to do it? Ta! :-)

2003-01-04 11:45:00 | Sure, if you think thats the place to do it. I'm abit fried right now, and have been playing around with it abit more and configureing my firewalls and modems and such, but will do so when I'm a bit fresher. Not to popular in my house hold right now, supposed to be restoring my Trans Am! Not turning into a geek! LOL, you should see my office now with bits of computers and software and games everywhere. Just to wean myself of it, all I'm going to do tomorrow is add another 512mhz of ddr ram. Oh and spend the afternoon playing on my flight simulator with my dad. And maybe play with my network settings a bit more.........owwwwwww!!! Stop pulling my ear will yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Gotta go Bye

2003-01-04 21:34:00 | Basically Dangers network installation took 11.5 hours because everyone was telling him to do compeletely different things. The FAQ that pressf1 has is very accurate and good, following this step by step will get you set up. If you have just two PC's then look at the faq i posted. (Susan B can you stick this on your website as it won't stay on mine forever) Terry's recommendation to remove the dial-up adapter resulted in danger corrupting his winsock stack. Which basically helps run all the protocols. While terry may have had problem with his installation it doesn't mean everyone else is and hence he created a lot of hassle by suggesting his way. In the end Danger and I probably wasted at least 3 hours doing checks of the cards etc only for me to find out that he had a firewall and hence thats why the cards weren't pinging each other. (now i know why everyone always asks for the specs of peoples machines) :-p Susan if your setting up a network. I recommend printing out the PDF i have provided or the FAQ on pressf1. Follow it step by step and you should be ok. If things go wrong, theres always someone hanging around here to help you out.

2003-01-04 21:53:00 | roofus: I grabbed that PDF file yesterday when you posted it but I don't yet know if I can put it on my website for others to download. I'll figure that one out later; for now I'll get it printed out ready for my own use when I get my network card soon -- thanks. Incidentally, Big John mentions in his post on that FAQ about firewalls preventing pings.......

2003-01-04 21:56:00 | yea i noticed that today. I was well aware that a firewall would stop a ping between the two PC's but i just didn't know he had a firewall. I also note that Danger did mention he had a firewall in this thread. So kinda my fault for not reading all the posts properly!!!!
