| 111038 | 2003-01-04 11:08:00 | Is it true that, if I use an AGP 8x video card in a motherboard that only supports upto 4x, the video card will draw too much power and causing the machine not to boot up?? My motherboard is a Soltek SL75 KAV, using a Via kt133A chipset. |

| 111040 | 2003-01-04 20:27:00 | i have heard of that but not with any existing 8x card. i think the 8x spec allows for NON-4x compatibility(different currant specs) so it won't run on existing 4x mobo's. however due to the lack of 8x mobo's i think most video card manafactures would make backwould compatible cards. i will have to relook at the specs again to be sure tho. | tweak'e (174) | ||
| 111041 | 2003-01-20 08:26:00 | Most AGP Cards are reverse compatible. The biggest thing is that new cards are 1.5V and may burn out in older motherboards, some cards have protection. AGP4x cards work on 1x/2x usually & most 8x cards have to work on 4x until the market broadens. | kiwistag (2875) | ||
| 111042 | 2003-01-20 08:46:00 | I know that with my nVidia GF4 which is AGP 4x that I can set it to run at 1x or 2x for compatibility in the windows display settings, so I dont see why it would be different for 8x! | Chilling_Silence (9) | ||
