| 110823 | 2003-01-03 21:09:00 | Have followed all the instructions in the FAQ in setting up my network, and have tripple checked and uninstalled and reinstalled everything, but on my PIII the diagnostic ping check keeps getting Bad Command. My P4 diagnostic is fine. But it will not connect to my PIII. The green light is on on both systems, and I am stuck. What else can I try? | Danger (287) | ||

Another piece of advice: keep cool and take your time, it ain't easy until you know how. I'm not looking forward to it myself..... :D |

| 110826 | 2003-01-03 22:43:00 | Using TCP/IP, as in the FAQ (followed instructions to the letter) and the pc that is working is a Pentium 4, 2.4 with a Biostar P4SDQ motherboard with a SIS 900 Fast Ethernet Adapter. The other pc is a PIII 800 with a DSE PCI 10/100Mps Wol V network card. This is the one that fails the ping 127.0.0.1 test. Just went into the networking wizards on both pc's and tried setting things up in there, and then couldn't connect to the net via either. All the settings seem correct. Have to now disconect the cable between the two computers to enable me to connect my P4 and if I reconect the cable neither will access the net. Have just run sys restore on the PIII and will start again. |

| 110829 | 2003-01-03 23:42:00 | Hey Never use Network Wizard as I find that it's more hassle than it's worth . Have you tried using a different network card in the failing computer - as the light has illuminated signalling a connection a very much doubt it will be the card, however it's worth a try . Also, the same goes for the cable (although Crossover cables can get a bit expensive) - see if you can borrow one off a friend . 1) Remove ALL network protocols on the client (PIII 800) machine, except for the network adapter (including Client for Microsoft Networking) . Now reboot it . 2) Install Client for Microsoft Networks and TCP/IP for the network card only . Don't worry about setting up a static IP for this machine just yet, let it assign itself one for the time being . 3) Under the indentification tab specify a workgroup (most people just use their surname) and a computer name This should reset all the network settings for the client machine . Repeat the same for the host machine, except keep the Dialup connection protocol, so now, when you add TCP/IP, you should get two adapters . Just remember to use a different computer name, but the same workgroup on the host . If this doesn't work, on both computers go into system properties in the control panel and under device manager expand the network adapters tree (it's different for XP I think) and make sure that the drivers for the network cards are okay and that there aren't any IRQ conflicts/etc . This should sort out the software side of things, otherwise you could (once more) remove the devices and get the latest ones from the manufacterer . CyberChuck |

| 110830 | 2003-01-04 00:41:00 | Done all the above, and on my P4 machine am getting the error "The system detects a conflict with IP address 192 168 0 2 (the PIII address) with the hardware address 00 05 1C 11 10 BC. The interface has been disabled." I am using ME and a crossover cable. Wheres my sledgehammer! Arrrgggghhhhhhh............. And now a similar error on the PIII, same conflict address 192 168 0 2 and hardware add 00 E0 4C 8C 68 D0. |

| 110831 | 2003-01-04 00:50:00 | Ok, progress at last. Changed my PIII address to 192 168 0 3 and now have a successfull 127.0.0.1 ping on both computers, yay:) But still can't ping to each other, boo:( |
