| 110755 | 2003-01-03 10:32:00 | Bit of a pure guess here ...... but I would be tempted to create an ISO of the disk (winiso), that way it should keep all the boot info ...... Then manually download the latest virus definitions and replace the virus defs from CD with the downloaded ones ....... Will have to look on my Nortons disk to see what extension they use .... you could do the same sort of thing with nero by not completing the burn then replacing in the definitions when you go to burn the saved image .... The main thing is keeping the boot info .... from memory Symantec use PC DOS on their CD's, so you may need to find PC DOS boot files to do it any other way: eg: Copy all the files to a folder on your HDD, add in the new files >>> create a new compilation in the form of a bootable CD and point it to the PC Dos boot files when it asks for them .... |

| 110756 | 2003-01-03 10:47:00 | OK, heres symantecs instructions on manually extracting the virus defs from the update executable ..... it also has a list of the files contained within the update .... I just had a look on my disk which is systemworks and it has a folder "VIRUSDEF" which contains those same files .... so I would bet on replacing those ones and at a good guess it would all be up to date ............ 1. Copy the Intelligent Updater program (yyyymmdd-vvv-I16.EXE, yyyymmdd-vvv-I161.EXE, or yyyymmdd-vvv-I32.EXE or yyyymmdd-vvv-X86.EXE) to an empty, temporary folder. 2. Launch the Intelligent Updater program using the /DUMP command. For the yyyymmdd-vvv-X86.EXE file, use the /EXTRACT command. This will extract all the virus definitions to the folder. For example, type yyyymmdd-vvv-I32.EXE /DUMP to extract the files. Or type yyyymmdd-vvv-X86.EXE /EXTRACT [path] where path represents the current directory. The yyyymmdd represents the date of the definition set. The vvv represents the version number. For example, the filename could be 20021231-001-I32.EXE for a December 31 definition set. 3. Copy the files to the virus definition folder. Copy the files to this location: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\VirusDefs\Incoming\ NOTE: Copy the file ZDONE.DAT last. This file signals Norton AntiVirus that the definition set has been completely loaded. If it is not loaded last, it may cause errors.
