111341 2003-01-05 22:21:00 Hi,

I have just installed a new XP Home box, and everything works on my ADSL connection, except for one annoying thing, which I hope someone can held with.

If I am connected, and start Outlook Express, it disconnects me, and prompts me to re-start the connection. I only have one connection configured (although there were a couple in the early days).

Also, Outlook Express doesn't seem to want to store the Message Store changes I made for the various Logins - I have found where in the registry to make the change manually, and that works, but is this a known problem?

Thanks

Quentin

111342 2003-01-05 22:24:00 I find this problem a bit weird and confusing, can you explain more clearly?

Are you using Jetstream or Jetstart, as Jetstart can sometimes be little annoying.

Have you re-configured anything which you were not 100% sure of after installing the Xp OS?

111343 2003-01-05 22:34:00 Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply.

I see from a quick search that I am not the only one suffering from this, and I haven't seen a solution yet.

The box came pre-loaded, so I haven't (re)installed anything.

As soon as I start OE, and I think it should be connecting to check the mail, it disconnects and re-initialises.

I am using Jetstream, and other connection-intensive things, like checking email on the Citrix connection to work, are all working fine (better than before, in fact!).

All 'hang up' options are off in IE and OE setup.

If I set OE to not check at start up, the connection is broken when I press 'Send/Recv'.

Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks

111344 2003-01-05 22:40:00 OK, Found the solution.

The problem is that the connection to the pop3 server is set to connect using a non-existent connection (it existing once, but has now been removed).

In OE6, change this using

Tools/Accounts/Select the default account/Properties/Connection/Set the 'Alway connect' option to the same connection as that used by IE.

Hope this helps someone else.

111345 2003-01-05 22:47:00 Make sure that IE/Outlook knows that your new connection is the default.
Check in IE:
Tools
Options
Connections
Select the one you want to use and hit Set as Default

111346 2003-01-05 22:49:00 Man, That's weird, I posted it and went away from it and forgot about it, but I posted immediately after sy's post! Why is it now showing up below the quentins? Chilling_Silence (9)
111347 2003-01-05 22:54:00 Assuming you are using OE and not Outlook XP
Go to Tools/Accounts/Mail tab/Properties
Select Connection Tab
Check your Connection preferences, either remove tick from always connect using or make sure the correct connection is showing.
