111201 2003-01-05 19:16:00 I didn't like it. I deleted it and reinstalled Mandrake. Installation is okay, and you can play cards while it's installing, but that's the ONLY feature I liked :)

111202 2003-01-05 19:53:00 Hmm... Cant say that Ive tried mandrake 9 too in depth, or for a good trial period of time, That's coz I was having troubles with my test PC.

I can safely say that I have found lycoris to be excellent so far, easy to use, and great looking :D

I would recommend that you buy the CD from the Aussie PCW - as you can be sure its a good working download without errors!

I'll try and get a small review tonight for y'all!

Cheers

111203 2003-01-05 20:35:00 I like it. I have installed it on a few pc's with no problems and it looks really good (except the default fonts can be a "chunky"). I also use Mandrake 8.2 and RedHat which I will stick to for my Accounts database. Lycoris is good for a desktop pc and has the Windows feel about it. The only problem was when I moved a hard disk from one pc to another, the gui wouldn't come up as the graphics card had changed (one day Linux will detect this I hope as Windows usually does). 111204 2003-01-05 20:58:00 What graphics card are you talking about here?

I had some probs, but its easy to fix, and it came up with a recovery console when I had screwed around with the XF86config-4 file too much :D

Try having a look in that file, you'll need to be logged in as root, but you can modify it easily, use the driver=vesa and set the res (Right down the bottom, use 640x480 to be safe)

Cheers

111206 2003-01-05 21:22:00 I managed to fix it but could you imagine Joe Public going into the command line to fix a configuration file. I mean to say Uncle Bill has decreed that the command line is dead :D Dolby Digital (160)
111207 2003-01-05 21:46:00 Agreed - Yet when it wasnt working too well, going fuzzy and stuff, I hit Ctrl+Alt++ and it switched to 640x480

Going into the control center I adjusted it to 1024x768 which is what I wanted.

It didnt go - instead, it brought up a command line interface, with the option of repairing it to default, using a vesa driver, or carrying on, and 2 others I cant remember off the top of my head.

I do however agree that Joe public would have trouble coming to grips with that, and agree that this is not for everybody. But still, its a lot of fun for some to try :D
