111105 2003-01-05 02:00:00 Hey there everyone-I just bought a multizone DVD player and I want to make some VCDs to play on it-can someone describe the process for me? I have downloaded some MPEG files, what now? I have done some research on the net but its very confusing?? I have a HP CDRW can I use the CD burner proggie that it came with or do I need to invest in a special program? charmed (1903)
111106 2003-01-05 02:14:00 I dont know if the HP program does it or not. Should be blindingly obvious if it has an option to burn a VCD though.

Nero does it, just tell it its an "other" type of CD. Then it allows you to choose VCD. Then you drag and drop the files, Nero converts them and burns the VCD.

One word of caution, many DVD players will not read CD-R reliably, some prefer CD-RW. Look here (www.vcdhelp.com) to see what media has been tested on yours.

I have burn't mpegs which play in a computer, but haven't tried using a DVD.

Blank CDs are very inexpensive. Just do some experimenting till you get it right.

111108 2003-01-05 05:32:00 Go to www.vcdhelp.com and click on "convert to vcd" section on left frame - it has all the info and links you will need falvrez (390)
111109 2003-01-05 05:53:00 Thanks for the advise guys :O) however I researched this topic before I asked the question here and found the VCD help site already and found the info confusing-all I want to know is the process-I download files, MPEGS, AVI etc-convert them to VCD compatable through Nero or similar, and burn them to CDRW (as my DVD player will only read CD RW for video playback) charmed (1903)
111110 2003-01-06 07:20:00 conversion takes ages unless you have a very powerful PC the process can also be confusing I have about 30 or so vcds if anyone wants to swap check out my profile kiwibeat (304)
111111 2003-01-06 08:43:00 Mmm.. Depending on the player, it might be able to read some non-standard ones. Conversion does take ages, and can be un-neccesary if you're downloading the likes of Music Videos from P2P progs!

Baldy - To play them on your PC, you can open up Windows Media Player 7, 8, or 9 and have a look aroud the CD for .DAT files I think (Dont have a VCD handy) and they play in WMP!

What?

I use nero on Vanessa, a 450meg pentuim1 slug. My one VCD, a compilation of music vids, took a few minutes prep before burning!

Could it be that most were already compliant? It took me a good 2 hours to convert 40 mins of video, on a 933Mhz Celeron!
