111671 2003-01-07 04:19:00 I'm having problems copying my grandsons CD for his favorite game
The original is scratched and is needed to play the game.
I've tried CD reviver to eliminate the scratches but it still won't copy on my CD burner. Is there any other way to copy the files to a new CD.
Regards Bruce

111672 2003-01-07 05:22:00 Sometimes they can be repaired professionaly, but I am guessing that in most cases you will just have to replace the game with a new one.

If its badly scratched, some of the data will be destroyed.

111673 2003-01-07 05:24:00 You could try getting it repolished Bruce. Try asking at your local video shop or check the yellow pages. Quite deep scratches can be polished out and the cost is not great.

111674 2003-01-07 06:06:00 The "data" on a CD sits just below the "label" on the CD, so if the scratches are on the "label" side then as Baldy suggests, its possible the data is unreadable.

If however the scratches are on the underside clear plastic, there is about 1mm of it before the data layer, and most scratches can be polished off this surface.

111675 2003-01-08 22:04:00 Have you tried using the CD Burner as the source drive when trying to copy the disc? Burners generally tend to be a little more relaxed about the quality of the CD.

I have a game CD (Rally Championship Xtreme) which got scratched by my 4 year old son (it's his favourite game :D), and I was unable to install it from my CD drive (following my latest rebuild). No amount of cleaning would solve the problem. One of the .cab files was corrupted. I stuck the CD in my burner and it installed first time.

Only problem is it then wanted the CD in the burner every time the game was played.

Does anybody know of a way of getting it to look in the CD drive.

111676 2003-01-08 22:14:00 You can always try finding the CD's ISO on the web and downloading it... Its not 100% legal, but if you already own the game, then I dont see why not?

If the game runs from the CD (after installation) then just inserting the CD into the CD Drive (rather than the burner) should launch the game and it now should (hopefully) run from the CD Drive. (it's worked for me on a few games, but not all).

111678 2003-01-08 22:17:00 Huh? ?:| I know I could download a crack to allow me to play without the CD in the drive? Is that what you mean? I have considered that - and not yet discounted it :8} as I would like the CD to last a little longer. It's only 6 months old!.

111680 2003-01-08 22:23:00 That makes more sense. :8} In response to your other message, the game doesn't autoplay once installed, so I have to start it from the desktop. Thanks for the suggestion anyway.
