2003-01-07 04:10:00 | page no longer formats my files, just shows format data in txt followed by my letter or heading in txt left justified. No colour, fancy font, weird. Happened after i added a USB Hub OR installed window washer. Reinstall MS Office 97 made no difference. Help

2003-01-07 05:17:00 | I hesitate to answer this one as you don't give enough info ( like operating system ) However..... Taking my life in my hands.... :-) I would suggest that you do a search for the file normal.dot and when you find it rename it to normal.old When you restart Word 97 it won't find normal.dot and will create a new normal.dot for you. I am GUESSING that your normal.dot file is corrupt. This is the template that Word uses for all new documents. If that doesn't work then give us more info. If that is not the problem you can rename normal.old to normal.dot and you won't have lost anything. My solution may not work but it won't make matters worse.

2003-01-07 22:22:00 | Thanks Elephant, but no go. Still got the same problem. Op sys is win 98. I will desperately try another reinstall of Office 97. I have seen another query for this problem but cannot remember where or if there was an outcome. as I did not have the problem at the time. Thanks Ronald

2003-01-08 03:57:00 | Might also try installing the 2 Service Packs that are available for Office 97. | CYaBro (73) | |
2003-01-08 22:45:00 | Yep, when I 'insert date' I get the formula but not the date on the screen. Used to get the date before. Something really whacko. Ronald

2003-01-08 22:47:00 | thanks CyaBro will try the service packs again. I copied the normal.dot template from my second comp (which works) but it made no difference so guess I can discount that. Ronald

2003-01-08 23:09:00 | Go to TOOLS | OPTIONS | VIEW Remove the tick from "Field Codes" Then you will get the desired view, and not just the code itself. If its printing wrong as well, do the same in the "print" tag on the same options menu

2003-01-09 01:00:00 | good thought godfather. I had found the field codes box ticked while checking settings on my other comp, and removed the tick. Alas it did not fix anything. This is such a real bummer that I will have to do something really drastic soon involving a big hammer. Ronald

2003-01-09 01:15:00 | Perhaps Off97 is not completely removed when you uninstall. Try running this (support.microsoft.com) to make sure. I would then reboot and try an install again. | parry (27) | |
