What is correct - both connected from IDE 2
(a) cd rom as MASTER and cd writter as SLAVE or
(b) cd writter as MASTER and cd rom as SLAVE

111646 2003-01-07 04:17:00 There is no correct method for having either drive as master or slave. It's completely optional. If it was my PC I usually like drive letters being the same as which CD drive is closer to me. So if My CDWriter was the top drive and the CDROM was below it D: will be CDWriter and E: will be CDROM. As I say it's completely optional. Kame (312)
111647 2003-01-07 04:59:00 Connect the Hard drive as master on the Primary IDE.

Connect the CDWriter as master on the Secondary IDE.

The CDRom can go as slave on either but my preference is on the Secondary as a slow CDRom drive can inhibit the speed of the hard drive when on the same cable.

111648 2003-01-07 05:04:00 Actually, it does matter... Your CD writer should be on master, if your cd-rom is not the fastest available, as any slow cd-rom will have flow on effects to the digital audio extraction, DMA, etc of the writer.

111649 2003-01-07 05:34:00 I know nothing about fitting hardware, but an observation.

Wouldn't it be better to use the CDRom as master, and Writer as slave? I was told that you should always use the CDRom in preference to the Writer for playing music CDs, games (hence it being wired as master)

My thoughts anyway

111653 2003-01-07 08:00:00 normally it dosn't really matter which is master or slave. however some cd writers like to be on the master, don't ask me why but some are less problematic that way. tweak'e (174)
