2003-01-07 02:39:00 | Have just formatted my computer and reinstalled from my original disc windows 98., I then updated using Microsoft update my version 5 internet explorer to latest version 6. I now find when I click on explorer to open up my home page and open up the internet I get a message that says I cant open explorer and need to reboot my computer. Regardless of what I do I cant go into the internet through explorer but hove no problems to go to the internet using dial up connection. Can anyone tell me what is going on Thanks Ron | norrol (2154) | |

What are you doing when you are able to connect. Do you connect with a dialup shortcut then open IE and everything works. What is the error message you get whan IE fails to open. |

2003-01-08 00:23:00 | Are you saying you can't open Internet Explorer unless you have dialed in and connected with your modem. If so you could select "never dial a connection" in Tools/Internet options/Connections just to confirm that it is the dialer causing the problem. Then try this. If you have connect automatically selected it may be interfering with IE Auto-dial feature. Double click My Computer Double click Dialup networking Click once on the ISP connection icon to Hilight it. Click on Connections at the top. Tick the box "prompt for information before dialing" Click OK

2003-01-08 03:03:00 | In your first post you said "have no problems to go to the internet using dial up connection" I took from this that you were getting web sites OK this way. So just to make sure I understand, you can connect with your modem and the two computers are showing in the bottom right corner by your time. You cannot open IE at any time. I have no idea what that error is but sounds as if something has gone wrong with your reformat, Did you remove IE 5 before you installed IE6 It is possible you need to have IE5.5 before installing IE6 but someone else may be able to give you some advice with this. At the very least I think you will have to reinstall IE6 again

2003-01-08 03:10:00 | Open up the Control Panel Double click on Add/Remove Programs Find MS IE6 and select that A window will appear with 3 options, select the Repair option and see what happens! Cheers Chilling_Silence
