| 111569 | 2003-01-06 22:44:00 | Heya, I am not here to start a flame war or anything ..but just to let you know.... even tho a lot of ppl claims that Win98 is faster than Win XP for gaming ...I personally found it the other way round! I ran 3dMarks2k1 and my system scores around 400 pts more than when I was running Win98. Both quake 2 and 3 (I know they r old..I don't even play them) shows significant increase in fps. Also, on the Madonion.com forum most ppl bench with WinXP to get the most points out of their system ..... So, Win XP might not be so bad for gaming afterall?? I know that 3d2k1 is a synthetic benchmark ..... but still ..it does give an indication of how well DirectX games will perform. |

| 111570 | 2003-01-06 22:55:00 | Hmm... Okay, point noted. Have you got the latest drivers on your 98 install? They also reccommend you defrag before hand, as with 98 probably being the first install, it will likely be more fragmented than others. DX 9 is out on both platforms if you'd like to download that and install on both, I'd be more than interested in the results. I do however understand that things differ from PC to PC, and that even the temperature of surroundings can afffect performance etc. and that perhaps my experience is an uncommon one! If you are dual-booting, I would be interested if you made sure of those three things previously mentioned and tryed 3D Mark again :-) Thanks thou, very interesting! Cheers Chilling_Silence |
