1326353 2013-02-04 00:56:00 I want to convert an existing Hotmail/Outlook.com account to use a custom domain (as Google Apps no longer has a free option). However I also want to make sure the old hotmail.com address still works, as it's still in use. I know that when changing from a hotmail.com address to an outlook.com address the old address still works, but I want to make sure the same happens with custom domains. Can I keep the old address or would I need to make a new account? pcuser42 (130)
1326354 2013-02-04 01:39:00 Yeah you can keep the old one. Follow these instructions (Worked when I gave them to another friend of mine who's also big on Microsoft):

1326356 2013-02-04 02:15:00 +1 on the labnol.org link. hotmail account will continue to work and be used to manage the custom domain. Custom domain will be a separate mail box, but be warned there is currently NO IMAP support, only the old Hotmail HTTP based acces, as well normal POP. It is the one major thing I miss from Google Apps.

The other thing is navigation is confusong to bookmark the management page because I cannot find anyway to access it form a standard hotmail/outlook.com web access. Oh and you retain yout @hotmail part. the upgrade does not change the primary email address, you creat outlook.com addresses as aliases to the primary account.

That's why I wanted to go with Google (for greater flexibility), but the owner uses the Hotmail website so that's not really a major problem.

1326358 2013-02-04 02:29:00 I hear you.

I'm glad I had my personal domaiin and a few of my current clients on Google Apps before they changed the rules. New customers are having to accept limitations and limits on choises.

There is some whispering that MS may add IMAP support but no promises and no timeframe.
