1326191 2013-02-02 15:56:00 I can get a AMD FX-8120 APU & MSI 970A-G46 Motherboard for $174
or I can get a AMD FX-8350 & Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 AMD Motherboard for $388 so which one would you get?

1326192 2013-02-02 18:37:00 The second. pctek (84)
1326193 2013-02-02 21:37:00 for $388 you could get a cheaper Z77 board and an i5 3330

Curiously $388 exactly.
I understand the desire to support AMD but you asked best bang for buck, to me this is it. I'm not an intel fanboy, I tend to go with whichever platform is currently the better one. for the last few years it's been intel.

1326194 2013-02-02 21:59:00 8350 + 990FX.

Would go 8350 over 3570k and therefore anything lower based on this (AMD) (www.youtube.com) and this (nVidia) (www.youtube.com) (As a side note the flamewar in the comments is hilarious) You're saving like $20 +/- whatever the mobo price difference is for basically on par or better performance and great streaming performance.

1326195 2013-02-03 00:34:00 Money isn't my problem. I just wanted something to play around with. Wouldn't AMD give me more leeway for tweaking? If I wanted to overclock it and put in a liquid cooler. Also would the 8 cores might come in handy sometime in the next year or two? I just want something to do because I'm retired and bored. Also would an 8750 video card last me 2 years for all the games or would there be a need for a for a 8770? lostsoul62 (16011)
1326196 2013-02-03 01:36:00 AMD will probably let you pull bigger numbers when you overclock but the performance gain won't be as good as say the 3570k e.g. +100mhz on the 3570k will do more fps wise than 100mhz more on the 8350. I'm guessing the 8750 will have performance only slightly better than the 7750. The generations overlap a bit in terms of performance e.g. a 6870 still beats a 7770. Probably worth waiting for the 8xxx benchmarks before you decide on which card you intend on buying. You might be better off grabbing a 79xx card or a 78xx card as the price drops on release of a the 8xxx cards. The nVidia GK110 graphics cards are supposedly coming out late February, might see a price drop there too (although Titan is a card which performs on a 690 GTX level...) icow (15313)
1326197 2013-02-03 18:13:00 Lets not De-rail this into an intel vs AMD thread, the OP can look up benchmarks etc and decide. I just wanted to point out that an intel system can be built at the same price point and that most websites that do benchmarks reccomend the i5 range over the AMDs.

As for the original question, the 8350 it'll last longer without any performance issues. You don't necessarily have to pair it with the sabertooth, expensive motherrboards don't actually add much to a system outside of overclocking ability and www.computerlounge.co.nz is almost $100 cheaper with the same chipset.
