1301444 2012-09-17 09:38:00 ASB has offered this for at least 10 years, and I can't remember the last time I wrote out a cheque. Or for that matter, where my cheque book is

1301445 2012-09-17 10:09:00 Was that last cheque for 12/6d, being for a WOF and filling the tank? :D

(12/6d = $1.25 (for the kids.))

Now you'll get your money faster
You can now access deposits from other NZ banks the same day we receive them, whether it's a one-off payment or a regular payment like your salary.

All the banks are doing this, they've been talking about it for ages, after all, why should it take ages to appear in your account?

1301449 2012-09-17 21:11:00 It wasn't until I started doing internet banking that I realised what a rort the banks ran with cheques. If I get a cheque the money comes out of that persons a/c that night and yet it is about four days before it is available to me.. mikebartnz (21)

They've been talking about it, yes. But it was only yesterday I read that page where they said they were actually doing it.

Remember the gymnastics we had to go through, e.g. Subtract 1 pound 11 shillings 7 pence from 3 pounds 4 shillings and 5 pence?

What an absolutely diabolical system

PS I think I got it right: the balance is 1 pound 12 shillings and 10 pence. Anybody?
