1300882 2012-09-14 01:45:00 I am seriously considering purchasing a eBook reader as I am an avid reader .

We have the Kindle which seems to be the biggest seller, but are there (of course there would be) serious or better alternatives that won't break the bank?

Any Ideas, opinions and views are welcome .

1300884 2012-09-14 01:51:00 The kindle fire looks sharp too to be honest, but I am looking for basic versatility rather than great specs (would be nice if money wasn't an issue :) ) Sanco (683)

Don't think the paperwhite will be too expensive (when it comes out). If you wish to stray into tablets, there is always a nexus 7.

1300886 2012-09-14 02:20:00 A mate of mine had a Kindle - for about a week. The he sat on it and smashed it (it's only plastic). Wouldn't have happened with a tablet... johcar (6283)
1300887 2012-09-14 02:24:00 The Kindle Fire will have reduced battery life so be aware if this is an issue with the way you use it. I have a Kindle keyboard model and am very happy with it. It is so easy to buy a book from Amazon and you can read it on the Kindle or computer. If you use Calibre, you can convert other formats so you can read them on the Kindle.

Consider buying from Amazon direct and save yourself money instead of buying from DSE.

1300891 2012-09-14 02:42:00 Sony makes nice e-book readers, mainly depends where you want to get your books from. I only went with kindle because amazon seems to have the biggest range and usually better prices. I have tried the kindle app on a tablet and a smartphone, it's pretty good but personally I think for just reading the kindle is better than both. It's lightweight, easy to hold, and the battery lasts for ages. The tablet is too heavy for long reading sessions and the smartphone is too small, both are obviously a lot worse on battery life also.

There's also whatever whitcoulls supports, kobo I think it is.
