1301178 2012-09-16 22:38:00 Key has reiterated the Government's view that no one owned water. I have to wonder if the Maori claims are more to do with the 49% sale of assets which includes Might River Power.

1301179 2012-09-16 22:48:00 I seem to remember it was Clark and co who ignore the referendum..

Google is your friend. ;)

"A total of 1,622,150 votes were cast with 87.6 percent in favour of repealing the controversial new law".

"Prime Minister John Key said he had listened to the result of the referendum and plans to take some proposals to Cabinet on Monday.
Mr Key refused to tell reporters in Australia what those initiatives were but said they fell short of a law change".

And we all know he declared the referendum “Non Binding”.

How he could just ignore the numbers to facilitate deals with the opposition eludes me, especially given that in New Zealand he’s a Servant not a Dictator. (I think?)

But only if we learn from it and make damn sure any financial impropriety doesn't happen again.

Iwi should be accountable to the taxpayer for what they do with our (the public) money. In the process, everyone will know where their handouts are going, the performance of their "investments" from Casinos, to dodgy pubs in West Sydney, to 2 Degrees.

And further down the road, if this public money is imprudently "invested" or otherwise wasted, we need to make it very very clear that it's the end of the handouts. There's no more coming, and they're on their own.

May I suggest we simply cut the handouts now? ;)

That way the Taxpayers Money is held, or spent, by Government and therefore there is no need to police what Iwi are up to with the money .

And Fair Crack of the Whip, take a look at THIS . ( . hawkesbaytoday . co . nz/news/trust-may-not-have-funds-to-pay-former-mp/1390461/" target="_blank">www . hawkesbaytoday . co . nz)

This quote in the article, from Mr Henare, struck me as funny ...

"I don't have a problem with Mrs Awatere-Huata but it is the process which was used, it wasn't kosher," he said.

So here's an expert on Jewish Halakhic law? Could this possibly lead to claims Maori originally arrived on the Ark, and preceded the canoes by many thousands of years?

You would think she would help her fellow bros and work for pro bono. Like she is a convicted criminal and dyes her hair blonde like a White woman, she shouldn't charge much anyway.

1301187 2012-09-17 02:02:00 Could say the same for these power companies who need water to get / provide power. And the councils who charge water rates. If noone owns water, why should people pay for these? Speedy Gonzales (78)
