1325976 2013-02-07 05:28:00 I have a drink DNS 323, it Has a great community of add-in developers, although the sstorage is almost full, I'm thinking of using a ML350 G5 as a Host in the garage, it has 4x1Tb in it and 12gbp ram......I might build a new NAS on that SolMiester (139)
1325977 2013-02-07 12:20:00 Hey again guys, I've set up everything, got it to work internally and also copied all my files over from my old NAS storage to the freenas server. It all seems to be going ok internally, I've been tinkering around with settings and see how everything works. Its a really great tool, easy to set up, hit a few snags installing it and some setting it up after install, but nothing you can't fix without a bit of googling :)

Now the only other thing I need to sort out is for me to access the storage remotely. Apparently using the following - "smb://xx.xx.xx.xx:xx" should work. But it says this - "Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (smb) isn't associated with any program." Chrome just googles the address, apparently I will need a third party program, but nothing was stated as to which program. How have you guys sorted this issue out (if you do use freenas or have used it in the past?)

1325978 2013-02-07 23:12:00 Coz you'll be doing it in windows, just use the following from the Windows Explorer address bar (Or WinKey + R to get the Run box up):
\\X.X.X.X\sharename

1325979 2013-02-08 06:16:00 Hey, so doing that gives me the following error message:

\\xxx.xx.xx.xx:22\Jerrys
A device attached to the system is not functioning.

1325980 2013-02-08 08:19:00 What are you trying to use Port 22 in there for? Just put the IP in and if it's shared via smb with correct permissions, it'll work. Chilling_Silence (9)
1325981 2013-02-08 23:07:00 Well, t works within the network itself but I can't access it that way from a remote location, so i opened a port and switched on the SSH service and set it up according to a youtube guide, which then gave me that error message. almightynugget (13536)
1325982 2013-02-08 23:34:00 You need client software to connect with, Windows does not include scp or sftp functionality.
Use winscp or filezilla or such.

1325983 2013-02-09 00:49:00 You can always give Swish (http://www.swish-sftp.org/) a go, you install it on the PC you want to use, and fill in the as required.( so it says on the site)

Just installed it on Windows 8 -- Now I would need some Sftp site to try :)

1325985 2013-02-09 01:51:00 You can always give Swish (http://www.swish-sftp.org/) a goLooks nice and easy.
Although
Current status: alpha

Alpha status means that Swish is still missing several features and not everything will work perfectly. Download it, install it and give us feedback but please bear this in mind.
