1326459 2013-02-14 03:44:00 Would be keen to know how you get on. :) wratterus (105)
1326460 2013-02-14 03:56:00 Why do you need this Gargoyle? DeSade (984)
1326461 2013-02-14 03:59:00 Cause it's awesome. ;)

Well for me, it would be the QOS mainly. But various other features are rather handy too...

1326462 2013-02-14 04:14:00 I like plugging it in and it just working.
Rather not have to flash anything.

1326463 2013-02-14 04:18:00 Yeah basically it's *real* stable when compared to almost every other router hardware / firmware out there.

To give you an example, the Orcon Genius by default shits bricks when you join a TeamSpeak3 server with more than a couple of people in a channel. It'll drop you every 10-20 seconds, depending how much talking is going on, and how many people are in a channel.
They have a firmware update which mostly fixes it, but not completely.

I can *host* a TeamSpeak server (At my place) and successfully have over 50 people connected to it, behind my VDSL2 Draytek DV2750 and the Gargoyle running on a TP-Link WR1043ND.
We've tested a room with 15 people in it for a few hours, and the Gargoyle router is completely solid.

Another example: If I plug the Thomson TG585 router in to my network, it's so unreliable it will crash within about 30-60 seconds from the load. (At least this was when I had ADSL2+). The Genius would die (even without TeamSpeak being open) after about half an hour. Gargoyle + the Draytek DV120, not a worry!

It's also worth noting that I tried *two* of each device, just to ensure it wasn't a one-off faulty router. It's the make / model in general.

...that, and as wratterus mentioned, there's some *nifty* features on it!

Which reminds me, I've filled up my 24-port switch and need to get another one on the way home tonight!

Your shitting me??????

I have spent hours trying to get TS to work for my raiding...

Final nail in Orcon's coffin.

1326465 2013-02-14 04:33:00 For me it's for the QoS and the advance router management. It also tends to handle traffic better than stock firmware, and depending on the model you can get to unlock a few extra features in the router and best of all... get regular updates :) Something your OEM doesn't do The Error Guy (14052)

Nup , dead serious. It's the shitty Genius router. You should have posted here :p

You can get a firmware upgrade to a specific "beta" version that addresses that issue, if you ring and say you're having issues with TS3. It's not perfect though and you'll still drop every hour or so in a room with 8-10 people. It's a hell of a lot better though :)

Indeed! Well put.

1326467 2013-02-14 04:46:00 I had no idea the router was the cause of it....

And you're right, I should have posted here.
