1326002 2013-02-01 20:44:00 Do you really think Grandma is going to enjoy a tiny little 7" screen?

iPad is 9.7" - that's what she saw remember...

1326006 2013-02-02 00:20:00 Pretty much. He showed her an $800 iPad, let him hook up WiFi for her, buy it for her... Otherwise, go with something quality, like that Acer or N7. Chilling_Silence (9)
1326007 2013-02-02 07:01:00 We bought a DVC tablet from China via aliexpress last year, it was cheaper than anything we could get here at the time and so far it has performed flawlessly, it doesn't upgrade from the standard Android it came with. For what we use it for it is great and I don't see why in our circumstances we would have been better spending the extra $300 it would have cost us to get something here gary67 (56)
1326008 2013-02-05 00:35:00 I bought a 7" Apad

Terrible screen, unusable in or near sunlight, touch screen usable but not that good
too slow to play games with, took forever to start up
had serious issues connecting to some wifi router access points: some OK, some not.
Google App Store had 'issues' (these needed a bit of googling to find a fix)

Never used it long enough to run the batt down.
Terrible thing. Even a $110 Samsung Android phone was miles better (but smaller)

1326009 2013-02-05 00:58:00 Pretty much what I thought, he's a bit of a loose cannon that kid. Ask him not to do something and bingo he goes and does it. Should ask him not to do the dishes one day. Guarantee I turn my back and the cheeky bugger would do them just because I told him not to :D

The whole tablet thing seems to have died off now, the good thing is 2nd hand devices only get cheaper so if it pops back up I'll try find a nice wee nexus 7 for them. I know there are a few decent no name ones out there, heck there's probably some that are better than the Galaxy tabs, just finding them is far too risky.

Personally, I think it's disgusting that NZ stores hawk off these hunks of shite as acceptable products. It's no wonder Android has a bad rep. They don't even advertise WP or Surface either. I see Samsung have released their Ativ thing, don't like the look of it myself.

1326010 2013-02-05 02:39:00 Yeah pretty much ... It's not like it's super expensive for a quality product too, but for some reason people see the cheap Android ones and go "OOoooh cheap, yuss!", then buy it, get disappointed, get disillusioned, and go fork out some 5-10x what they had on an iPad.... When they could have just spent 2x what they initially had and actually get a *quality* Android product.

Some people...

1326011 2013-02-05 03:03:00 I think a bit less of "they don't make 'em like the used to" and a bit more of "pay for what you get" attitude needs to come into play. That being said, they don't make 'em like they used to unfortunately. But some people really just need to wake up and pay for the experience. Even if it is over priced, the iPad delivers an $800 experience. The Error Guy (14052)
