1325740 2013-01-30 23:46:00 First system info: I have an Acer Aspire V3-571G laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium.

Its got a 750 GB hard drive in it, which is partition twice one is a 345 GB partition which has the OS and the other partition is 336 GB which had all my data on it.

The question is related to this thread: pressf1.pcworld.co.nz

I have used the AOMEI software, to create a 3rd partition.

The 3rd partition was created off my 336 GB partition and I have copied my OS to the 3rd partition using AOMEI software.

In the Disk Management, my OS partition, says it’s (Boot, Page File, Crash dump, Primary partition) and my new 3rd OS copy partition just says it’s Logical Drive), does that matter?

Or does it need to say its (Boot, Page File, Crash dump, Primary partition), so should I have created my new 3rd partition on my OS partition???

And do I need to copy the System Reserved partition as well?

Please help, as I need to upgrade to Win 8 TODAY, otherwise i will loss my win 8 key from Microsoft.

What are you trying to do?

The operating system needs to be on C:, always, and BOOT.
If you put it on another drive letter, it can cause hassles later.

1325742 2013-01-31 04:58:00 if you have the drive partitioned off into 3, then it doesn't really matter where you install W8.

Had a bit of time this afternoon to play silly buggers :D

Installed Windows 7 on a drive, then partitioned it off into 3 total.

W7 is on the first partition

Take notice of the Drive sizes:

Installed W8 on partition E 133GB

When you install W8 you select custom and select the drive you want to put it on.

When it reboots you have the option of Booting into windows 7 or 8.
Which ever OS you boot into automatically becomes Drive C

Looking at the following pictures you'll see:

1st one is booting From windows 7 and Windows 8 is then drive E

4729

Booting into Windows 8 it becomes C and Windows 7 becomes D

As mentioned Before - look at partition Sizes to confirm.

If you install W8 and it doesn't boot to the start menu, then it also wont activate, there is a reg alteration that will fix that. I can provide if required.
