112780 2003-01-11 00:23:00 We have a near-new Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100 notebook which is occasionally used to play games.

The games ('Mafia' and 'Tiger Woods 2003') have run just fine when first installed but then later a problem appears. When a game CD is started up, the CD drive is heard to spin up and the opening screen of the game appears as expected. However when we click on 'play game', the CD drive spins down and the game seems to minimizes to a little window button on the task bar near the Start button. In the case of 'Mafia', the text in the button says 'Mafia...Zzzz'. Like it's sleeping.

If we look at Task Manager, it says the game is running. If we uninstall and re-install, the games work fine again but the problem soon recurs.

Would appreciate help/comments.

Thanks

112781 2003-01-11 00:32:00 There is a known problem (but no real solution) to the Mafia issue.

This link here (www.greenspun.com) will interest you.

Its a discussion on a gaming forum about that very issue.

112782 2003-01-11 00:37:00 Thanks Godfather. At first I thought it was a bug in Mafia, but 'Tiger Woods PGA 2003' (which we got later) does exactly the same thing. basil (2970)
