Phoenix is by far the best browser I've used in a LONG time. Do a google search for:
phoenix download nightly
That'll give you the most recent (Im off there myself)

Yup! Mozilla or Phoenix are done by same people. I use Mozilla at home with Desktop/LX and its quite nice, lots faster than IE.

JM > Phoenix does seem sot be slow on ChatF1 eh? I'll try fully removing all traces of it and begining again.

Thanks :)

I'm sure Mozilla was on a PCW cover disc a couple of months back.

Thoughts such as yours probably put a chill up Redmond way .

Unfortunately there is a chilling silence from there as to why IE randomly crashes .

So, if you haven't already done so, your best bet is to run ad-aware and have it remove the Alexa spyware embedded into IE 6 .

My own experience has been that following the removal of the Alexa spyware IE 6 will no longer randomly crash .

Next up on the list is to surf over to Netscape and download version 7 . 01 .

It's great . It's fast . It's free . It offer some nifty features .

Such as, you can set it to only allow cookies for each session you have the browser open (no more covert activity after you've closed the browser since all the cookies get crushed) .

You'll no longer need other programs to crush pop up ads because you can get netscape 7 . 01 to do it for you .

Besides, I'd wager $5 . 00 those other programs are spyware themselves .

Finally, using netscape 7 . 01 and having edited the hosts file (don't edit the LMHOSTS file as this is used for WINS resolution and has no bearing on TCP/IP DNS resolution, according to Microsoft Technet) in the requisite way "127 . 0 . 0 . 1 ad . doubleclick . net" (excluding the quotation marks) you'll find that all the ads at this site are blocked and reclaim what seems like an acre of real estate .

Be aware, however, that if you follow this last suggestion at certain sites (such as pcworld . com) an irritating message may appear as the site is being rendered to inform that access to certain doubleclick web servers have been denied . Arh ha! No more ads - at least from this server .

Strike back at all this net folly - simply click ok, message begone !!!

Finally, one last catch . A full installation of Netscape will include spyware .

So do a custom install and select only the browser - the rest is not necessary .

If you don't do this and you allow Netscape to install RealPlayer and the like I'll wager $5 . 00 you get Netzip installed along with it, which is, by the way, spyware .

So, you've got it covered both ways now!!

113351 2003-01-13 02:47:00 Cheers, I might have to have a look at it, perhaps install it on a PC at home...

For now, I've got Phoenix back up and running and am off to find some nice skins for it :)

BTW - I would suggest you try it, if you like netscape, both a built on the same source! And another thing - there's NO spyware! Cookie control is quite good too with a pop-up stopper (One of the many reasons why I prefer it over IE)

113352 2003-01-13 02:49:00 Get arachne. It's a big download ... almost 975 kB ... from Czechoslovakia (http://browser.arachne.cz). It's going to be less likely to crash because it runs under DOS. :D Graham L (2)
113353 2003-01-13 09:49:00 This must have been the posting that was ringing bells when I posted earlier. It was in response to your POP3 and SMTP server query -

"Hotmail doesn't use pop3 and smtp servers, it uses HTTP servers and an Active Server Page, so when you setup your account Outlook liases with the Active Server page and gets you your account info.

The address is services.msn.com if your interested. However, there is a program that's supposed to allow you to access Hotmail on programs that don't support HTTP mail servers.. although I cannot remember it's name - sorry
