| 114039 | 2003-01-15 06:10:00 | I, through all my insanity and stupidity have came up with this innovative idea to speed up New Zealand in the High Speed Internet Market. The idea is: Replace all the exchanges with repeaters and switches, then remove all the phone lines and replace them with Cat6 network cabling! then, all exchanges are linked to telecom via big fat Fibre Optic Cables - this way, you have the potential for 1gigabit internet speeds - (you could play the entire country in HalfLife and not have to worry about network lag!), and for those of you who still use the phone - don't worry, you can use Voice over IP! © CopyRight to CyberChuck 2003-3003 Your ideas and opinions! | 114040 | 2003-01-15 06:14:00 | Why don't we just get multiple OC47 lines going to every house? And you can't copyright that, the only thing you could make it is Intellectual Property - and someone else has bound to have thought of your idea before. |

| 114041 | 2003-01-15 06:18:00 | New Zealand doesn't have the capabilites for OC47 - don't forget Telecom's equipment supposedly came off the U.S a while back And who do you know thats stupid enough to think of an idea like that? - this coming from the person who was stupid enough to find out that you could attack yourself in the LOTR game... need I say more? | 114042 | 2003-01-15 06:35:00 | Telecoms equipment, a few years back, was state-of-the-art, leading in the world. Why? The USA sold them "beta" equipment and technology, if you would like to call it that, to test in a smaller area before implementing in their own country. Telecom got a reduced price on it. And now we have crap. |

| 114043 | 2003-01-15 06:43:00 | Yeah . . I remeber someone saying that Telecom USA wanted to test out their new equipment, and needed a growing country to test it in, so they chose NZ (which was kinda nice really) . . . However - Microsoft, learning from Telecoms mistake decided to do it the smart way! - yes that's right! - the whole world (well . . everyone who uses Windows) is Beta Testing for Microsoft - notice how Microsoft no longer call their pre-release versions Beta but Release Candidate? and by Beta Testing on the whole world, Microsoft aims to make Better OS' than before . . . | 114045 | 2003-01-15 07:25:00 | Hey I agree with you Baldy, which is why I will not [under most circumstances] bag Microsoft . An extra-ordinary example [of improvements] are the upgrade from DOS to Win 3 . 11 or Win 3 . 11 to Win 95 - no longer do people have to work in the DOS Prompt, they have a friendly user interface to work with, and all their programs are easily accessible through the Start Menu . I remember reading somewhere, that nothing new is made, rather old things have improvements with more bells and whistles added, and get's called new . It's amazing how fast threads can go off topic . | 114047 | 2003-01-15 08:34:00 | Let's not forget that Microsoft for a long time held themselves back for the sake of backward COMPATIBILITY. Let's ALSO not forget that most computer users use a version of Windows. Are we that use Windows ALL wrong? In the real world you will find that there are more jobs out there for people that use Windows and Office ( Whatever versions ) rather than people who specialise in Linux. BTW... Wouldn't it be nice to have an English ( as opposed to American ) spell checker on this site? Specialise was supposed to be spelt Specialize with a Z. |

| 114048 | 2003-01-15 08:45:00 | Yeah - but don't forget if your going for an IT Job, well any sort of job come to think of it, if you put down that your competent with handling Linux, then you'll stick out like a sore thumb, and [therefore] more likely to get the job . Also, another question from my ignorant self: in what comment was the reply of: > Let's ALSO not forget that most computer users use a version of > Windows . > Are we that use Windows ALL wrong? aimed at?? Yeah! - also, we could do with an add feature as some other users have pointed out! - add some words that aren't part of normal english literature . . . Firewall is one of them I think?:| CyberChuck |
