113696 2003-01-14 07:14:00 I am running Windows 2000 professional. When using the defrag option, there are (presently) 5 files that wil not de-fragment. One is 511Mb and is called hiberfil.sys. Others vary from 1Mb upwards. Any help as to how I can force all the files to defrag. Thanks Muzza101 (2994)
113697 2003-01-14 07:33:00 hiberfil.sys probably defrag, because it is the file used to store system information when you put your computer into Hibernation mode.
The other files that won't defrag are probably system files too, but if they're not, try running scandisc to see if the files are corrupted.

113698 2003-01-14 07:55:00 Are you in Safe Mode??

Have you had a look through the FAQ at the Defrag one?

113699 2003-01-14 09:16:00 Hiberfil.sys is a file that cannot be defragged. Read here (www.microsoft.com)

Turn off hiberation before defragging.

And scandisk has never existed in an NT based system.
