2003-01-14 04:05:00 | Outlook 2000 allowed selection of e-mail address by entering a nickname in the To... address box. This feature no longer works in Outlook 2002. How to bring it back to life ?? | mario1 (2991) | |
2003-01-14 04:16:00 | Mario1, Try Tools/Options. On the preferences tab, select E-Mail Options. Next, select Advanced E-mail Options and tick the Automatic name checking box. Cheers Miami

2003-01-14 04:45:00 | Thank you for the suggestion but I already have this option ticked by default, and it does not make any difference. The nicknames still cannot be used for email auto-selection in Outlook 2002 ? BTW, it appears that Outlook 2002 only supports Inline AutoComplete ? Any other suggestions ?

2003-01-14 04:51:00 | Are there any settings in the Address Book itself? And does the auto-complete feature work when you type in full names, not nicknames? | agent (30) | |

2003-01-14 05:03:00 | Stupid question follows. You do not necessarily have to respond to it Do your contacts have nicknames?

2003-01-14 05:53:00 | Possibly even stupider question......... Wouldn't you have to enter the nickname first and assign/link it to the relevant address in some way? How else is Outlook supposed to know that Shagger is the nickname for archbishopwhatsisname@godsquad.com?:| Cheers Billy 8-{) :D

2003-01-15 04:51:00 | The way it works in Outlook 2000: you enter the nickname (e.g. MA1) in the Nickname field, which is located in the Details tab under contact details. you can then type MA1 or any other assigned nickname into the To... or CC... text box when addressing an email, and bingo, the email address of the nickname-assigned contact is auto-entered for you. The nicknames still appear in the Outlook 2002 Contact Details, unfortunately typing the nickname in this version of Outlook no longer works - Outlook 2002 does not recognise the nicknames and does nothing when you type e.g. MA1.

2003-01-15 05:15:00 | Mario1, After typing the nickname in the TO field and while the cursor is still located in that TO field have you tried pressing the CTRL-K combination key (CTRL key and K together)... what happens when you do that? :-) Babe.

2003-01-15 05:22:00 | I tried the Ctrl+K - I get the "Outlook does not recognise "MA1" - "Do you want to create new contact for MA1 ?". which again shows that Outlook 2002 does not recognise nicknames, unlike its predecessor.
