| 114050 | 2003-01-16 03:52:00 | The one thing which you haven't considered: the cost. Saturn were going to duplicate the Telecom network in Christchurch. They've stopped. If it had been completed, it would have cost something like $2000 per house the cable went past (plus the cost of connecting each house). That's probably borrowed money. Asssume 25% of the houses joined up: they would have to cover the "cost of money" for 4 houses, say $8000 plus depreciation, so probably over $2000 per year (per customer) just for the cable. Then add the costs of the exchange equipemnt, cable transmission equipment , you are [b]not going to like the monthly rental. |

The roadworks people dug up the middle of my street and several others to run power cables from one substation to the other - it took ages to complete, and then when they finished it, for some strange reason, their chip sealant or whatever it is didn't do it's job, so they came back again and did it proplerly... still it was a major hassle having to go round the block just so you can get in your driveway :p - I think the entire project was supposed to last 4 months but ended up at something like 6 - bugger.
