| 114384 | 2003-01-16 10:12:00 | Newly installed Gigabyte ga-7va with onboard Realtek Avance '97 Audio. Newest drivers downloaded and installed. All looks OK in Device Manager, but there is no sound and Multimedia Properties state there is no playback device. When installing new mobo, I booted into safe mode, removed everything from Device Manager, uninstalled all Creative/Soundblaster programs (from previous mobo), rebooted, installed new drivers on detection, etc. I have uninstalled & removed, run RegCleaner, rebooted, redetected and reinstalled, but still no go. Aside from a clean install of 98, is there anything I haven't tried? |

| 114385 | 2003-01-16 19:18:00 | installed the drivers but there is no playback device????? Did you manually install these drivers off CD or did windows request so. If you did the earlier, its more than likely that you havn't enabled the onboard sound. This can be done in the BIOS. |

| 114387 | 2003-01-16 19:27:00 | Hey antmannz, I have had this exact same problem before on about half a dozen PC's, usually after updating sound card drivers. Have tried many different things all with no result. Only way that I have been able to fix is a fresh install of Win98. Think it has something to do with WDM sound drivers. If you do manage to fix it please post what you did! Cheers CYa |

| 114388 | 2003-01-17 04:45:00 | Argh .... I installed the Win95 sound drivers(!) :O and now it all works sweet. Apparently the 98 drivers are wdm only, but 95's are vxd. Not sure why it works, but it works. ?:|?:|?:| :) |
