114299 2003-01-16 08:50:00 Hi, a friend brought his PC over for me to try to fix. It has an AMD XP1800 CPU & 256 DDR RAM. He had just bought a Leadtek Nvidia Ti4200 w/ 128MB DDR on board, AGP8x, also MYVIVO, etc. When he tried to play "Battlefield 1942", the PC would lock up after a few mins. He had installed Nvidia drivers from the Nvidia website, so I changed the drivers to the correct Leadtek drivers. This didn't fix the prob. I then checked the Task Manager, CPU usage was 100% & the RAM was maxed out & using heaps of Virt. Memory. I then added more RAM (to total 512MB of DDR). The CPU still 100% & RAM used was 440MB. I also ran Scandisk & Defrag. I then started the game maxing out all of the games video settings etc. I then moved the mouse around a lot, zooming in & out a lot etc, trying to get the game to crash. After 15 mins it hadn't crashed. So I thought the prob was fixed. My mate took his PC back home to play the game again, & not long after he rang me with the same prob. Any advice would be great. I was wondering if the XP1800 CPU didn't have enough grunt (as it was maxed out at 100%), or whether it was an AGP8x issue. I have read in a few mags that people have had problems with it as it is not mature technology. Thanks. quackle (2097)

He has since bought himself a new Mobo & I haven't heard from him, so I suppose it has benn fixed. I really just posted this msge to get other ideas of what I could try next time. Thanks guys. quackle (2097)
