114313 2003-01-16 06:44:00 Hi.

When I try to shut down / restart Windows XP Home on my year old ,

- AMD Athlon XP 1800MHz
- 256 Mb. RAM
- 40Gb Hard Drive (18.6 of 37.2 free)
- Build 2600, Win XP Home

I will get "saving settings", "logging off" and "shutting down", then it hangs in what I call in the "XP blue screen of death" (yep, there's one - scary, huh?) - the hard drive willl whurr for a few sec's then it just dies.

I have to restart (using the restart button, using the old three finger stab of CTRL, ALT and DEL donto' worko) then shut down from the logon window.

SIGH! - Occasionally, it will work, but most times not!!!!!!!!!!.

Why not?

Ben

This is a known problem with Windows XP. The Service pack (SP1) includes the fix for this issue. I think NZ PC World will have SP1 for Windows XP on their cover disk for February. Or you can use the windows update site.

Babe.
