114303 2003-01-16 01:30:00 Have just received this from a friend. Using Windows ME

Have the following pop up.

Logon - pop3.wave.co.nz

Please enter your user name and password for the following server.

Logon

Server: localhost

User Name: User name is here/pop3.wave.co.nz

Password: xxxxxxxx

She types in the password but the pop up continues

I've suggested she check out OE/accounts and make sure her password in remembered but nothing seems to work.

I just know this is a simple thing to fix so any help would be appreciated

114304 2003-01-16 01:33:00 I think this has something to do with Norton Antivirus. Turn off mail scanning, then turn it back on and see if it makes any difference. antmannz (28)
114305 2003-01-16 01:37:00 Question: Does your friend own the server wave.co.nz and was she trying to access her own emails from the server? - I ask this, because the server is "localhost" which means that the computer is locally hosting it.

Also, I would tell her just to use her username, and not username/pop3.wave.co.nz as the login name - however as I keep getting Error 403's in Internet Explorer when I try to access wave's support I do not know what settings Wave uses - bugger huh?

Yes e-mail was trying to be accessed. The way it is set up seems to

Does your friend own the server wave.co.nz

Do you mean does she own wave.co.nz then no she doesn't

localhost" which means that the computer is locally
hosting it.

It's always been "localhost"

114308 2003-01-16 01:53:00 Her Anti- virus scan incoming mail has failed.
With OE open Click on Tools/Accounts
Click on the Mail tab
Click on Properties on the right
Click on Servers at the top.
In the incoming server address, delete localhost, Type in: pop3.wave.co.nz
In Account name field remove the /pop3.wave.co.nz, should just be username only.
Click Apply and OK
Send/receive and she will get her mail.

For the Anivirus to scan incoming mail it has to change the incoming server address to localhost and it will do this again with a computer restart.
If mail keeps failing, disable scan incoming mail in anti-virus and change the server settings as above.

114309 2003-01-16 01:54:00 If Norton AV isn't being used, change the OE mail settings to;
Server: pop.wave.co.nz
Username: <the persons username>
Password: <leave this as it is>
