114292 2003-01-16 00:54:00 Maybe I'm a conspiracy theorist, but I always thought it was a good line by one of James Bond's characters
"once might be accident, twice is suspicious, three times is enemy action"

Just having a look over three very recent posts

it seems problems arising from using KAZAA (or in one case KAZAA lite).
Now I have problems changing XP system files even when I think I need to, but Win98 is OK. Are there programmers out there that can surreptitiously (spyware, worm, etc. say from KAZAA) slide stuff into XP that I can't get out again, and that adequate repair can't be provided by Microsoft, Symantec or other of the large commercial outfits?
As I say, maybe I'm too much of a conspiracy theorist.

114293 2003-01-16 01:01:00 I dunno - Conspiracy's make for a good movie :D
Also - [i say this with caution] - when dealing with internet files/emails/downloads/etc it pays to be a little cautious (not paranoid) about the files you are receiving/downloading/using - for example HP Multimedia keyboards! - most people didn't even realize that they (like ET) enjoyed phoning home :p

114294 2003-01-16 01:27:00 I've seen patterns...

1. Reboot XP into ME so I can acquire photos off digital camera (drivers not installed on XP, CD is somewhere hidden among many boxes). Launch PSP7, attempt to import photos off camera. It freezes after starting to get the preview of Photo 1.
2. Reboot again. Repeat same process. Freezes once more.
3. Reboot again. Launch up the actual software that came with the camera to acquire. It freezes again. I end up deciding it would be far easier to get them off the Win2K comp and get them onto XP via USB Drive.

I am still yet to do that (the call of PressF1 lured me :D)
