114354 2003-01-16 00:44:00 $550 as a first estimate!

There's no HDD which means that people with no working knowledge of the inside of a PC will have to get it taken into a shop to get a new one put in...

Im not too sure, but I know I made a brand new PC (no monitor or HDD) for $800 including Gst!

Thats an AMD Athlon XP 1700+ with a nice graphics card and DVD-ROM....

There's still a goo dmarket for PC's though.. Perhaps you may be better off upgrading it and keeping it?!

114355 2003-01-16 00:50:00 I'd have to agree with Chilling_silence (blast - I hate that) ;) In fact he may be on the high side.

Sounds like it's a Compaq Pressario? Couple of years old? Got the system restore disk?

I'd put a hard drive in it and sell it in Trade & Exchange, that seems to be the best place to sell - you seem to get a higher price there than trademe.

114357 2003-01-16 00:54:00 I'm agreeing with Chilling_Silence - between $500 - $550 is pretty reasonable, however like he said - as it has no HDD, and most people don't have a clue how to install them, then that could be a drawback. Also, not that many people would notice, but the Integrated graphics could be a downfall - does it have an AGP port? - you should say so if it does.

Take a look at Trademe (www.trademe.co.nz) and Trade and Exchange (http:) and compare prices with stuff you find there.

114358 2003-01-16 00:56:00 Also, just adding to that - you could put how many PCI slots it has and how many are free - most people (even those who aren't the most technologically advanced) like to know their upgrade options

114359 2003-01-18 01:28:00 3 PCI slots are free.
I would strongly consider putting in a new 20 gig hard drive...
No agp slot... but i could install the new PCI version of the Radeon 9000 grephics card for around 200 - 300 bucks.
I definitley wouldnt consider keeping and upgrading it as i personally need a powerful PC for wasting my life on games suck as NFS - Hot pursuit 2 and GTA3.
Also, i want something with a cdrom drive AND a CDRW, but this stupid mini tower only has one ext. 5.25".
Yes i still have the three system restore disks, which have Windows ME (OUCH!), mcafee virus scanner, works, and a couple other things.

114360 2003-01-18 03:07:00 In order to sell it you just need a hard drive, 10 to 20gb would be enough. I don't think you should spend much on this just to sell it. Get a 2nd hard drive, reinstall windows ME (absolutely nothing wrong with ME for most users!). Then get a copy of Trade & Exchange and advertise it fow sal, remembering to list all the software that's installed by the system restore. It should thne attract a beginer because they will have everything they need to switch on and go. crozier (2004)
114361 2003-01-18 04:40:00 Are you interested in dabbling with Linux, either now or in the future? Because there are quite a few people on this forum looking/getting an older PC for that purpose. If you sell it now you will be kicking yourself later on if you decide to join the trend. Susan B (19)
114362 2003-01-18 04:58:00 Not worth very much at all. Just keep it as computer for doing other stuff on that does not need grunt. I gave my old 500 Mhz to my Mum to do e-mail and Word stuff on. Big John (551)
