114222 2003-01-15 18:25:00 My PC tends to switch its self off after a period of time of being on...
I am using windows XP, 2000+ athlon, 512DDR, 2 hard disks, and a RAID mother board.

what is going wrong with my PC? I initially thought it could be a heat problem, but the bios says that it is only at 55C and I have even tried running it with the side of the case off.

IUf anyone could offer any suggestgions as to why this keeps happening I would be very grateful..

Thanks very much

114223 2003-01-15 18:30:00 It could be your PC's power saving settings?

I'm not too sure how to do this in XP, but under the Control Panel should be something called Power Options (that's what it's called under ME) - see if you have your computer to standby/hibernate/shutdown after a certain amount of time.

114224 2003-01-15 19:58:00 Yes, I would say that's right. It may be going into "Hirbernation", where it stores everything that was in RAM onto a file on your HDD. It then loads up faster and you're right where you left off... Nothing to worry about :)

Right-Click on your dekstop and select properties.

Click on the ScreenSaver tab

Down the bottom is Power Options or something similar, click that and have a mosey around in there :)

Feel free to turn things on and off as you cant really hurt your PC :)

Cheers
