114190 2003-01-15 11:37:00 I recentley downloaded some music videos using Kazaa Lite. They would play in the "theater" in kazaa, but not in anything else, they just make my comp freeze.....can someone help? promethius (1998)
114191 2003-01-15 11:39:00 ....sorry i should have said they were mpeg files. promethius (1998)
114192 2003-01-15 12:05:00 What other media players do you have?

Try associating mpegs with other applications as well, which depending on your operating system, can involve (in windows explorer) clicking Tools | Folder Options | File Types, scrolling down to MPEG and MPG, and selecting a suitable application, such as Windows Media Player, or other MPEG player you may have on your system.

114193 2003-01-15 18:52:00 also make sure you have the right codecs installed. older versions of windows probably don't include the greatest mpeg codecs. i'm not sure where to get them, but try google. tango (2697)
114194 2003-01-15 18:58:00 Hey
Also, don't forget that some Media programs [ie: Windows Media Player] have their own feature which you can use to let it control what files it's allowed to use and cannot use. - I think MusicMatch Jukebox and Winamp might also have that feature ?:| - so you could always try going into the program that you want to play them, and seach around for those options?

114195 2003-01-15 23:38:00 Im using windows xp, so I dont think that the codecs are the problem....

I have tried heaps of media players....WMP, QT, Nero Media Player, Elecard MPEG2 Player....It's really strange, coz it only happens with MPEGs...avi's ect work fine....

114196 2003-01-16 02:16:00 All those players talk to the codec. if the codec is stuffed then its not going to play in any of them.
Maybe Kazza doesn't use the windows codecs. but im not sure

114197 2003-01-16 02:21:00 It might be playing using the DivX codec. I'm not sure why, but perhaps Kazaa can decode these files without having DivX installed.

In any case, try playing them with DivX (http://www.divx.com). Download either DivX or DivX Pro (better decoding, but is adware supported.

114198 2003-01-16 03:31:00 I found out wat the problem was . . . . . but caused another one .

They will play using WMP, but they take about 3mins to load . . . . I just assumed a crash, because the mouse wouldnt move, no response from ctrl+alt+del . . . . . . why do you(anyone) think it takes so long to load? I hav an athlon 1800 xp (256mb ddr), so it shouldnt take that long should it?

114199 2003-01-16 03:37:00 Occaisonally, my computer, when opening something in WMP9, will pause for a few seconds and say "Connecting to media" down the bottom.

If this is what your computer pauses on, then I'm not quite sure what the problem is, but try it without any other applications running, straight after booting your computer (so resources are unused apart from Windows).
