PCW goes for a particular market and I think does it well. Don't forget all those folks who are newly into PCs and want a local mag which they can understand. As the Highlander notes, there are other mags ( and the Web) for tech writing . Cheers |

Yep...I'd love to go into more depth and spend 5 pages benchmarking the latest video card but we simply can't spare that much space in the mag. Besides...for us to compete with websites who can easily write 5000 words on whatever they want PCW would end up being the size of the phonebook with a cover price of roughly $732.77 each month. Now there's a thought... |

| 114131 | 2003-01-16 04:41:00 | Greetings all, I must be a bit of a magaholic, cos I subscribe to PC Authority (it was on special), always buy NZPCW and PC User, and often Aust.PC. I used to get a few of the english ones but they cost the earth now. I got the first 50 issues of Net Guide, till it started all looking the same. I tend to read them all from cover to cover although I skip reviews that are of no immediate interest. I find I learn a lot, but hardly use any of the cover disk stuff. I have resolved this year to cut down on mags and spend the dosh on hardware and software instead - I'll need to read a few reviews to see what to but though. Maybe just a few more months of mags. I'm sufferring withdrawal from PCW with no January issue. |
