114336 2003-01-16 03:24:00 Yeah... re-read it carefully and saw the XP drivers thing... didn't think anyone would try installing XP drivers onto any other OS other than XP...

Saw the roll-back then realised it was XP... plus the whole restart thing kinda gave it away too ;)

114337 2003-01-16 03:36:00 Yes, I am running XP, but not SP1 (and nor will I get SP1)

No, installing the latest nvidia driver didn't help

No, installing several older nvidia drivers didn't help

No, Installing DirectX 9 didn't help (made all games die now - not just ut2003)

XP and games not liking one another is a myth - I have many games, and UT2003 works fine on my brothers pc, which is mostly identical to mine...

I am about to reload an image of xp that was working ages ago, and start afresh!!!

Is there anything else I might be able to try to get UT to work??

Cheers,
Craig.

Well, first port of call is to get SP1 installed. Is there a specific reason why you won't install SP1?

See above.

See above.

Dude... a search on google will prove that XP and gaming not working as well as other OS's is NOT a myth. Try reading this site (www.richleader.com) or even Microsoft's own knowledge database (search.support.microsoft.com) of problems with gaming under XP...

First port of call... install SP1.

114339 2003-01-16 03:46:00 You havent got anti-aliasing or anything going do ya?

Turn down the settings on it... I run mine at 800x600 (cant be bothered trying 1024x768) and its fine...

Restore... That's a good idea :)

Cheers

114340 2003-01-16 04:00:00 I just tried the game again with all detail, graphics and sound settings either off or minimal. again it crashed.

Here is the latest error message - maybe it means more to you than me - who can say...

114341 2003-01-16 07:28:00 Id say that you need to un-install then re-install the game from the looks of that message... Also, check that its picking up your display adapter correctly, as I had similar troubles in UT! Chilling_Silence (9)
114342 2003-01-16 07:35:00 Yeah, Ive just restored my pc from an image, so I will put on my old (working) geforce driver, and see what happens. Tomorrow I will take a new image, and then do a fresh install of ut2003.

How do I do this??

Cheers for your help,
Craig.

114343 2003-01-16 08:22:00 I heard that the latest nvidia driver 41.09 is causing some problems under XP, so maybe try a previous version. mejobloggs (264)
114344 2003-01-16 21:12:00 I have just been trying out a few detonator drivers I found laying about on my drive from previous downloads - interestingly enough, not one of them will work with my card. The only driver I have that does work properly is an old Geforce2MX400 driver from nVidia that came out prior to the detonator releases.

I am thinking: maybe my card is not being properly recognised by the detonator installer, and it is putting the wrong driver files in place (one for a different card perhaps). Is there a place where I can get drivers that are solely for my card (ie Geforce2MX drivers)??

Cheers,
Craig.

114345 2003-01-16 21:30:00 nVidia Chip based cards use what's known as Unified Driver Architecture, where they basically use the same driver in the same download.

There may be drivers available for the MX400, but I havent seen any (I havent been specifically looking).

Try google!
