114179 2003-01-16 05:57:00 I found this (www.fileflash.com) site via google - (read the user comments at the bottom of the page) - although their only user comments and therefore can be biased and not properly tested, etc - they do give you a [very] basic idea on comparison features... cyberchuck (173)
114180 2003-01-16 07:23:00 Have always used VNC (free). Then moved to tightVNC (also free) which is even better. pcAnywhere is better but you have to pay for it.

http://www.tightVNC.com

Advantage - small enuf to install via a disk or over a WAN. Require very small bandwidth, works fine even over a dial up connection. Also has Java/Web connector so I could hop on to any PC with a java enabled Internet Browser and provide support on my office WAN.

The other thing I like is that its is multi platform.

114181 2003-01-16 07:36:00 Okay - here's my usage stats on software for the past year:
WinVNC -
Tried it but it seemd a lot like Tridia, I didnt have the time to figure it out and back then it was lookin pretty hard to use about 6 months ago... slow as well...

TridiaVNC - Good, pretty fast, but there was a lot of display-redraw errors... I also had trouble with the graphics card on several client PC's.
Initiating the connection from the client was a major plus!
No file trnasfer was a bummer....
It was also pretty hard to get to grips with, but I think I did it in the end to make it useful enough for a LAN usage (Probably still being used on my mates LAN). The Interface was just a pain in the butt to come to grips with
Supports paswords but not NT-Security (Windows Login/Username Rights)

rAdmin - Good and tidy interface. Straight forward and yet powerful to use.
Very good and security (NT-Security supported), and also password protection...
Its dead easy to make the connections, and have File Transfer, TelNet, View Only, Full Control, Shutdown/restart/logout (without taking mouse and keyboard control), and it supports multiple connections to the client PC!

There's a whole lot more to it than that, but its just a small run-down.

Im really interested in PC Anywhere.. I think I might have to see about a Trial from Symantec..

Thanks

114182 2003-01-16 22:06:00 And out of this thread no one has mentioned Terminal Services which is built into every 2000 Server release and into windows XP as Remote Desktop. The one big advantage of MSTS is the ability to control user's and the level of access they have to manage the machine.

Note: You only need to licence TS on a MS Server if you are running it in Application mode. Admin mode is part of the package.
