Geez... 2 seconds in comparison to 45 seconds for a Windows Reboot! - if this is a stand-alone internet or email server (email inparticular) that doesn't have a redundant server as a backup means, with the amount of emails that will go through the AirNZ network - that's a whole lot of network resources and services saved... come to think of it - that's a whole lot of services saved even in small usage networks. For example, I read this book where some company (which was primarily internet based) was using some server (I don't know what OS), anyway, something happened and their server (which was an internet and email server) went down. Now, for some reason this company didn't have backup server means, so for the 34hours that this company was unable to send/receive emails and offer internet services. When the IT Guru came in, while sorting out their server, he hooked his P166 laptop running RedHat 6.2 into their network and managed their emails from there. Anyway... looking on hindsight this lot of info I just posted has no relation to this thread whatsoever! - still some more useless info for the day if anything. CyberChuck |
