114236 2003-01-15 11:37:00 I ran a scan...it came up with the following message:

The following component could not be deleted or unloaded:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\cd_clint.dll(cydoor)

Can someone please tell me what it is....is it a virus or not?

Many thanks...look forward to replies

114237 2003-01-15 11:50:00 Hi

This file is commonly associated with Kazaa and can be 'neutered' by following instructions on this site www.geocities.com or, more effectively - remove Kazaa and install Kazaa lite from http://www.k-lite.tk

Alternatively - look on Google using cd_clint.dll(cydoor) (as you typed in your post) and you will find many more lnks.

Hi Shar, I left my crystal ball at home today. What sort of scan...... I'm guessing an anti virus prog or ad-aware. I really would help to tell us :)

114240 2003-01-15 21:00:00 cd_clint.dll is a file put there by cydoor which is a spyware outfit. Usually KAZAA (note KAZAA LITE is different and OK and better) won't run without the cd_clint file. This isn't a virus, but cydoor sells info about your internet activities collected from spyware inserted via (usually) KAZAA to marketing firms, spammers etc.
If you still want to use KAZAA but without this problem you can, or could not long ago (I haven't checked recently) download a dummy or fake file with the same name (ie cd-clint.dll, use Google to check from where), rename or otherwise disable the existing cd_clint.dll and replace it with the dummy file.
KAZAA then runs fine without the cydoor spy component.

114241 2003-01-15 21:17:00 Id say it cant remove it coz it must be in use.. Ad-Aware would be what you're using right???

You can find a 3rd party un-installer, or you could reboot into MS-DOS mode (OS dependant) or boot of a floppy and then find the file and delete it like that if you're like me and cant be bothered scouring the net to find an un-installer.. :)

There may be more than one instance of it on your HDD, so take note of where your scan said they were all located on your HDD!

Cheers

114242 2003-01-15 22:57:00 Either that, or you could try bootong into Safe Mode due to the fact that it only launches Windows and necessary drivers, then remove it that way?:| - just thinking out loud :p
